Metal detector in use on the lake bed – assignment at Lake Neufeld
Search operationLake Neufeld

Metal detector in action: how an underwater search works

An underwater metal detector sounds simple: dive down, switch on the device, wait for the beep. In practice, however, everything around the device decides whether a lost key, wedding ring or phone actually turns up again.

  1. Before the dive: the search starts on land
  2. The right device for the water
  3. The test run: what does the object sound like?
  4. The search pattern: system, not luck
  5. Working on the bottom: calm, buoyancy, steady guidance
  6. Signal! What now?
  7. Limits of the technology – honestly
  8. Find, recovery and handover

Tip from the field: If you have a comparable object – such as a spare key from the same bunch – be sure to bring it. We use it to test in advance what the signal sounds like.

Our principle

Experience, not advertising promises.

What matters are the starting situation, search area, method and result. To keep content transparent, no invented successes or blanket promises of a find are published.

New assignment reports are added as soon as suitable images and information from real assignments are available.
